Description
A young man is shown guiding his energetic horse using a metal bit fastened through its nose. This marble relief panel, which once decorated a wall of Emperor Hadrian’s villa in Tivoli, Italy, is now housed in the British Museum in London. The artist drew inspiration from earlier Greek works, especially the Parthenon frieze carved in the mid-5th century BCE.
